India’s Golden Triangle 10-day luxury tour

Rajasthan is a colourful kingdom of palaces and pageantry, giant gold sandcastles, sun-kissed desert and bustling markets. This 10-day tour allows you to discover the region from the ultra-refined luxury of the award-winning Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces.

Days 1-2: Delhi
Arrive in Delhi and transfer to the wonderful Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi’s historic centre. The hotel is a byword for luxury and its restaurants and bars are among Delhi’s finest. The rooftop Grill Room has a spectacular view across the area’s picturesque buildings and gardens.

Embark on a full-day tour of Old and New Delhi. See the opulent Red Fort, the crowded bazaars of Chandni Chowk, the Raj Ghat (the memorial site of Mahatma Ghandi) and the Jama Masjid Mosque. After lunch explore the parks and gardens of New Delhi and see the India Gate and Parliament House.

Day 3: Agra
Sit back and relax as you’re driven to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. Begin with a visit to the impressive Agra Fort before continuing to the Taj for a sunset visit, when you can truly appreciate the play of light on its perfectly proportioned domes. Stay at the luxurious Gateway Hotel amid six acres of landscaped gardens.

Days 4-5: Jaipur
An optional sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal is available before your drive to the Pink City of Jaipur, visiting the deserted red sandstone city of Fatehpur Sikri en route. In Jaipur, check in to the Rambagh Palace, former residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur. Experience a taste of royal living among its elegantly appointed rooms, marbled corridors and majestic gardens.

Visit the Amber Fort, a marvellous example of Rajput architecture whose terraces and ramparts are reflected in Maota Lake below. Elephant rides cannot be guaranteed, but are a wonderful experience when available. Also visit the City Palace Museum and Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds).

Day 6-7: Jodhpur - Fly to Jodhpur and transfer to the Umaid Bhawan Palace hotel, the last of the great palaces of India and one of the largest residences in the world, set amid 26 acres of lush gardens. The Blue City of Jodhpur is a tangle of buildings along the edge of the Great Thar Desert, protected by a 10km-long stone wall. Within stands Rajasthan’s most formidable fort, Mehrangarh, perched on a sheer rocky ridge. You’ll visit the fort, together with the marble Jaswant Thada cenotaph and the Mandore Gardens.

Day 8-9: Udaipur
See the biggest and most important Jain temple in India, Ranakpur, before continuing to Udaipur, a cool oasis amid the heat of Rajasthan. Check in to the Taj Lake Palace. Built in 1746, the Taj Lake Palace – an almost surreal vision in marble – spreads across a four-acre island in the middle of Lake Pichola.

Enjoy a guided tour of the most romantic city in Rajasthan, taking in the huge City Palace, the largest palace complex in the state, and the Jagdish Temple. Enjoy market shopping in the evening and a romantic cruise on Lake Pichola.

Day 10: Mumbai
Fly to Mumbai for your flight home or we suggest an extension to either the Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai or the newly restored Taj Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad.
