Southern Laos

Visit Southern Laos

Introduction

Laidback market towns, dramatic plateaus, ancient temples and Mekong river life are among the attractions in the southern part of Laos.

The area is remote but accessible and offers a side of the country that is very different from the mountainous north.

Ruled over by the Khmers, part of the separate kingdom of Champasak before the arrival of the French, and a significant battleground during the Vietnam War, the region has plenty of historical sites amid its stunning natural landscapes.
