Time out! Huskies in Lapland
Come and enjoy the fascinating beauty of the Lappish countryside on this short winter adventure, combining four nights at a comfortable, family owned husky farm with action-packed days exploring the snowy wilderness of western Lapland by husky sled and snowmobile. Departures are on Sundays 18 November-13 December 2012 and 6 January-13 April 2013.
Day 1 Sunday
Fly from London Heathrow or Manchester to Kittilä via Helsinki and transfer to the Harriniva Hotel in western Lapland, close to the Swedish border. As well as being built entirely from wood and stone, the cosy hotel offers saunas, outdoor jacuzzis, snow igloos and Aurora Wellness, providing beauty and spa treatments. It also boasts a large husky farm with more than 400 eager huskies. Check in for four nights and enjoy dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, which serves Finnish delicacies as well as international dishes.
Day 2 Monday
Meet your snowmobile instructor at noon for a comprehensive run-through of driving and safety procedures before beginning your snowmobile safari through the forests, fells and frozen lakes of Finnish Lapland. It’s easy to understand why they’re the preferred mode of transport in this part of the world. (The safari is suitable for complete beginners, though a valid driving licence is required.) The afternoon is free for you to unwind at the hotel or for additional activities, such as a reindeer safari or snowshoe excursion.
Day 3 Tuesday
After breakfast, meet with your guide and happy huskies for a two-hour husky safari through the snowy wilderness, a highlight of any Lapland holiday. The afternoon is free for optional activities or relaxing in the sauna before dinner.
Day 4 Wednesday
Today is left entirely up to you. Available activities include ice fishing, snowshoeing, skiing and more.
Day 5 Thursday
Transfer to Kittilä for your flight home via Helsinki.
