Charming and intimate
Built in a Venetian Gothic style for an Italian noble family in 1905, the Villa Astra in Lovran is an historic 4-star hotel that has been lovingly restored by the owner. All original features have been preserved including the grand stone staircase.
Villa Astra has just six spacious rooms with high ceilings, all named after a different person who had connections with this area. All the rooms are air-conditioned with satellite TV, mini-bar, hairdryer, traditional furnishings and the larger rooms have large balconies. Please note that the hotel does not have a lift.
Despite its small size the hotel has a restaurant with a pretty outside terrace and serves a variety of menus including organic, vitality and gourmet. Local specialities are prepared, especially during the period of the local food festivals, of wild asparagus, cherries and chestnuts.
There is a small bar/ lounge area yet most guests prefer to sit outside. Drinks and light meals are also served on the wide terrace area surrounding the heated outdoor swimming pool. In the lower level, there is a small spa with direct access to the garden.
We like: That the owner of the hotel sometimes holds impromptu classical concerts and movie evenings.
