Best of Beijing
The perfect starting point for any China trip
Enjoy a three-day tour of the fascinating capital of China. Beijing is an intriguing mix of ancient sites such as the Summer Palace, Forbidden City and nearby Great Wall, as well as modern shopping malls and hi-tech Olympic Stadiums. Beijing is the perfect introduction for any trip around China and is one place that definitely can’t be missed.
Day 1: Beijing
Upon arrival into Beijing International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Summer Palace, a beautiful park, gardens and palace built during the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234). The palace became a luxurious royal garden and summer resort providing royal families with rest and entertainment by the time of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Walk around the shimmering lake and admire native Chinese plants or enjoy a cup of jasmine tea at one of the charming teahouses.
Day 2: Beijing
After breakfast at your hotel, enjoy a full day tour of this iconic city. First stop is the vast Tiananmen Square, which can hold up to one million people. It has great cultural significance and has been the site of several key events in Chinese history. Cross the road to visit the Forbidden City, the Imperial Palace for over five centuries. The city is the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world; it’s said that it was forbidden to enter the city without permission from the Emperor himself. In the afternoon, visit the beautiful blue-green Temple of Heaven with its golden motifs and patterns, where royal families worshipped gods and prayed for good harvests. Enjoy a traditional Peking duck dinner in the evening.
Day 3: Beijing
In the morning travel north to see the Ming Tombs, whose site was carefully chosen according to Feng Shui principles. They were built for the 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644 AD). Finish your tour with the highlight of your trip - the section of The Great Wall of China at Badaling. The Wall was built during the Ming Dynasty as a defence against the Mongolians and Manchurians. Climb the steep pathways over the hills to see amazing views and learn about the history of The Great Wall in the excellent museum.
