Chile – A Land of Contrasts
Chile is a land of breathtaking contrasts. Squeezed between the Pacific and the Andes, it stretches from the lunar landscapes of the Atacama Desert, through the forested Lake District, to the fjords, glaciers and spectacular peaks of the Torres del Paine National Park.
Day 1 Santiago Arrive in Santiago and transfer to your hotel. An afternoon city tour will showcase the Chilean capital.
Days 2–4 San Pedro de Atacama Journey north to the oasis town of San Pedro de Atacama, high in the Atacama Desert. Enjoy visits to the other-worldly Valley of the Moon (spectacular at sunset); the staggering Atacama Salt Lake; the steaming and spurting El Tatio Geysers; and a range of historical sites.
Days 5–6 Lake District Fly to the port town of Puerto Montt. After a tour, continue on to Puerto Varas, where the snow-capped peaks of surrounding volcanoes are reflected in the waters of Lake Llanquihue.
Day 7 Chiloé Visit the misty archipelago of Chiloé. Its isolation has led to the creation of its own unique culture, where stilted houses line the foreshore, seafood fills the markets and a belief in witchcraft runs deep.
Days 8–9 Lake District See the sites of Puerto Varas, then travel on to Puerto Natales, gateway to the Torres del Paine National Park.
Days 10– 11 Torres del Paine This unesco reserve is a mecca for trekkers and wildlife enthusiasts. Its 1,630 square kilometres encompass glaciers, lakes and towering granite peaks. Condors, eagles and pumas may be spotted.
Days 12–13 Santiago Fly to Santiago for your final night before your transfer to the airport.
