Cowboy country is your starting point for this journey through the dramatic landscapes of Alberta & British Columbia in western Canada.
Travel independently by coach, train and ferry to enjoy highlights including Banff, the Ice-fields Parkway, the stunning Inside Passage with its remarkable views of snow-capped mountains, jagged fjords, massive ice-floes and fishing villages, the coastal city of Vancouver and stays in world-class hotels & resorts throughout.
Day 1 Calgary
The adventure begins in the friendly city of Calgary in Alberta, best known for its annual Stampede whose centennial event will take place in July 2011. Upon arrival transfer independently to the Fairmont Palliser Hotel.
Days 2-3 Calgary to Banff
Enjoy fine views of the prairies as you head into the Rockies to the resort town of Banff. There’ll be time to enjoy the natural surroundings and take a gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain for great panoramic views.
Day 4 Banff to Jasper
A scenic coach transfer following the Icefield Parkway, which is considered to be one of the most spectacular driving routes in Canada. Cascading waterfalls, pristine lakes and colourful meadows are among the natural wonders along this route.
Days 5-6 Jasper to Prince Rupert
The fine views continue as you board the VIA rail train and travel into British Columbia in comfort and style. Through large picture windows you’ll have a chance to see Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, on your way to Prince Rupert, after an overnight stay in Prince George.
Days 7-8 Prince Rupert to Victoria
A full-day ferry sailing to Vancouver Island crosses the Inside Passage, with its giant ice floes and jagged fjords fringed with pretty fishing villages. Be sure to keep your binoculars and cameras ready for sightings of orca, sea lions and bald eagles along the way. After an overnight stay in Port Hardy you’ll journey along the Island Highway to the provincial capital, Victoria, known for its English character and bustling harbour.
Days 9-11 Victoria to Vancouver
Sightseeing tours of Victoria and cosmopolitan Vancouver - from where you’ll fly home after taking a ferry back to the mainland - provide a delightful journey’s end.
