Take a horse-drawn carriage down tree-lined avenues, visit the yards of some of the countrys best polo players and feast on Argentine steak and local wine. Our favourite of the several estancias around Buenos Aires is El Ombu de Areco, a late colonial-style mansion built in 1880. It offers nine spacious en suite rooms with large windows and period furniture. Beyond the ten-acre gardens lies ranchland, lakes and the Areco River. Activities include riding, driving cattle, milking and branding.
