Hawaii Highlights
Hawaii is an almost flawless destination. Home to a unique history and a laidback culture, the world’s most isolated archipelago is made up of six main islands, each with its own abundance of attractions. By far the most famous is Oahu, with swaying Honolulu and the beaches of Waikiki at its hub. Its other ‘must sees’ include Pearl Harbour and the wreck of the uss Arizona , and the extinct volcanic crater of Diamond Head. Island hopping is well worth the effort. Maui, in particular, consistently tops travellers’ polls of, most romantic islands. Besides its gourmet cuisine and fantastic luau, it offers numerous adventures, from diving and whale-watching to a hike around the rim of Mt Haleakala, the world’s largest dormant volcano. The mist-shrouded Iao Valley is another Maui favourite. Other island options include Kauai, the setting for such films as Jurassic Park and South Pacific , and Big Island, where you can gaze in awe at free-flowing rivers of fiery red lava.
