Rioja & Navarr a Wine Route
This self-drive tour concentrates on two of Spain’s best-known wine producing regions, offering plenty of opportunity to visit wine museums and estates in Upper and Lower Rioja.
On the first day in the region, you’ll discover the wineries of Lower Rioja, including Torres Librada and Viña Herminia. It’s also worth exploring the catherdral and Episcopal palace in nearby Calahorra.
The town of Olite offers the opportunity on the second day to wander around the palace of the Kings of Navarre, Santa María la Real Church, San Pedro Apóstol Church and the square of Carlos III. In the same square in which the Parador is found you can visit the Navarre Museum of Wine and Vineyards, while you might also make time to attend the Piedemonte, Marco Real and Bodega Ochoa wineries.
The final day takes you to Santo Domingo, excellently positioned to explore Upper Rioja. Here, you should visit the Ontañón Winery and Museum, the Haro Enology Station, the Vivanco Museum of the Culture of Wine in Briones and some of the region’s vineyards. And if there’s still time, take a look at the monastery in San Millán de la Cogolla and the cathedral in Santo Domingo itself.
