Luxury Winelands & Hermanus holiday

From June to December every year, the small seaside town of Hermanus, near Cape Town, hosts the best land-based whale watching in the world. Stay in two ’Relais & Chateaux’ properties on this eight-day itinerary. First, stay just outside Cape Town at the intimate Cellars-Hohenort Hotel, then The Marine Hotel, Hermanus.

4 nights Cape Town • 3 nights Hermanus

Day 1
On arrival in Cape Town, collect your car hire and proceed to the oldest wine growing region in South Africa, the Constantia Wine Valley. Constantia is situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain and is a short 15-minute drive from the centre of Cape Town. Your accommodation for the next four days is The Cellars-Hohenort Hotel, a perfect base from which to explore this beautiful city. With its own vineyard, plus verdant and peaceful gardens, this ‘Relais & Chateaux’ hotel exudes understated elegance and charm.

The Cellars-Hohenort (B)

Days 2-4
These three days are free for you to explore this picturesque city. A trip up Table Mountain is a must, explore the historic city centre, enjoy the Constantia winelands, visit iconic Robben Island or simply relax in the environment of the hotel.

Day 5
On the morning of day five, head east out of Cape Town for a leisurely two-hour drive. Your destination is the picturesque seaside village of Hermanus. During the months of June to December, Hermanus offers the best land based whale watching in the world. The magnificent Southern Right Whales make their home in the deep waters of Walker Bay and coastal paths offer fantastic opportunities to view these majestic creatures. Your accommodation for three days is the ‘Relais & Chateaux’ hotel, The Marine Hermanus. Perched on a cliff overlooking Walker Bay, you may even spot the whales from your room!

Stay:
The Marine Hermanus (B)

Days 6-7
Enjoy walks along the coast paths to view breaching whales. Make sure you listen out for the ‘whale-crier’ who blows a horn when the whales are in the bay. Away from the coast, the Fernkloof Nature Reserve offers mountain walks with breathtaking views of the bay.
