From Cape Town in the west to the game reserves in the east, this self-drive tour discovers the beauty of the Garden Route. Spend time in the picturesque city of Cape Town; explore the contrasting areas of the Little Karoo and the verdant Garden Route before ending in the ’Big 5’ game region of the Eastern Cape.
Day 1 - Arrive Cape Town
On arrival in Cape Town, collect your hire car and proceed to the intimate and friendly boutique guesthouse, Four Rosmead. This charming guesthouse is perfectly situated in the heart of Cape Town and forms a perfect base from which to explore this beautiful city. Attentive staff and serene surroundings will add to your Cape Town experience.

Days 2&3 - Cape Town
Spend these 2 days exploring Cape Town. A trip up Table Mountain is a must, explore the Cape Peninsula, visit the penguins at Boulders Beach or take a ferry to Robben Island. A day trip to the nearby Cape Winelands is also recommended or simply relax on on the white-sand beaches that surround the city. Whatever you choose, Cape Town will not disappoint.
Day 4 - Oudsthoorn
Your destination for today is the ostrich capital of South Africa, Oudsthoorn. We suggest an early start to make the best out of this scenic drive. Pass through the lush vineyards of the winelands before descending into the stark wilderness of the Little Karoo. A perfect en-route lunch-stop is the quaint town of Montagu. Then, travel the iconic ’Route 62’ in the afternoon before arriving in Oudtshoorn in the late afternoon. Your accommodation is a lovingly restored Karoo farm with fantastic country cuisine and a warm and welcoming feel.

Day 5 - Oudsthoorn
Highlights of Oudsthoorn include the impressive Cango Caves, cheetah farms, ostrich farms and the quaint town centre. You can also just relax in the lush gardens of the hotel.
Day 6 - Wilderness, Garden Route
Today, descend out of the dry Little Karoo to the coastal region know as the Garden Route. The drive is quite spectacular and the distant ocean views are some of the best in the country. Situated on a cliff top overlooking the empty beaches of Wilderness, your accommodation is ideally situated in the heart of the Garden Route.

Days 7&8 - Wilderness, Garden Route
The Garden Route is known for its expanses of wonderful beaches, vast views of the sparkling Indian Ocean, small coastal towns, large lakes, rivers and waterfalls. Time spent on the Garden Route will revive and rejuvenate you.
Days 9&10 - Game Reserve
On Day 9, drive through the coastal towns of Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and St Francis Bay before arriving at Blaauwboasch Private Game Reserve. Here, the ’Big 5’ are free to roam and experienced and knowleagdable guides will introduce you to the wonders of the bush on daily game drives.

Day 11 - Depart Port Elizabeth
After an early morning game drive, drive to Port Elizabeth where you will drop off your car hire and connect onto your flight back to the UK.
