Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival Quito
Upon arrival in Quito you’ll be transferred to your hotel.
Day 2 - Quito
Explore downtown Quito and its wonderful colonial quarter, the largest and best preserved in South America (and a recognised UNESCO World Heritage Site). Stroll through Independence Plaza, see the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace and the Monastery of San Francisco before continuing to the Equatorial Monument in the North of Quito which marks the latitide 0° - the Middle of the World (B)
Day 3-10 - The Galapagos Islands
Fly from Quito to the Galapagos Islands via Guayaquil and transfer to the M/V Santa Cruz. Over the course of the next few days you will visit a number of different islands and see an enormous diversity of wildlife in the air, on land and in the water. On your last day in the Galapagos you’ll visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and see the famous giant tortoises before heading to the airport for your flight to Lima in Peru (B,L,D)
Day 11 - Cuzco
Fly to Cuzco, the capital of the Inca Empire and transfer to your hotel. Morning at leisure to rest and acclimatise to the altitude. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided sightseeing tour in Cuzco visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun or Korikancha. You will also visit the Inca sites of Kenko, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman, strategically built on a hill overlooking Cusco, with its enormous carved stones, some of them standing over 9 m / 30 ft high and weighing over 350 tons (B).
Day 12 - Sacred Valley
Full-day excursion to the "Sacred Valley of the Incas", along the Vilcanota River. Visit the typically indian market of Pisac and the Inca Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo, built to guard the entrance to this part of the Valley, and protect it from possible invasion from the tribes in the Lower jungle (B)
Day 13 - Machu Picchu
The day starts with an early morning transfer to the train station for the 3.5-hour train journey to Machu Picchu, also known as "The Lost City of the Incas". Join a guided tour of the famous Inca Citadel, visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and various burial grounds. After the tour you will have free time to stroll around the archaeological site on your own. Return to Cuzco by train in the afternoon (B).
Day 14 - Cuzco-Lima
Enjoy some free time to see Cuzco at your own pace. Finish your last shopping activities or just walk around this enigmatic city. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima. Upon arrival at Lima International Airport there will assistance on hand to help with all departure formalities for your flight back to home (B).
