Sample Itinerary
Day 1 Lima
Upon arrival at Lima international airport you will be met and transferred to the Miraflores Park Hotel for a one-night stay.
Day 2 Lima - Cuzco
This morning you will embark on a tour of Colonial and Contemporary Lima. You’ll visit he Historical Centre including Plaza Mayor, Government Palace, City Hall, the Cathedral, Archbishop’s Palace and the old streets with colonial mansions and Moorish Balconies. Tour continues with a drive through the vibrant districts of San Isidro, Larco Mar and Miraflores overlooking the Pacific Ocean before you transfer to the airport for the short flight to Cuzco. Upon arrival in Cuzco you will be met and transferred to the Hotel Monasterio (B).
Day 3 Sacred Valley
Drive through the scenic Sacred Valley of the Incas and stop in the town of Pisac to visit the lively and colourful market where local Indians meet to sell their merchandise as they have done for centuries. Continue to Ollantaytambo where you can climb the impressive Inca fortress and then on to your home for the next two-nights, Hotel Rio Sagrado (B,L).
Day 4 Sacred Valley
Day at leisure to enjoy your beautiful hotel or take optional excursions in the area. A trip to the salt pans at Maras or the ancient Andean village of Mismanay where you can spend a day with its inhabitants learning about their ancestral agricultural techniques and the pre-Incan tools that they still use today. Enjoy a lunch prepared by the women of the community, who will also share the secrets of their weaving techniques and the process of dyeing wool with natural dyes (B).
Day 5 Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu
The Hiram Bingham train is the most luxurious way to travel to Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. You’ll be served a delicious brunch on board while enjoying this spectacular journey through the changing landscapes and wonderful vistas of the beautiful Andes. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes you’ll transfer by bus to Machu Picchu for a guided tour of the citadel, visiting the main plaza, the royal quarters, the Temple of Three Windows, the circular tower and the sacred Sun Dial and burial grounds. Overnight at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel (B,L).
Day 6 Machu Picchu - Cuzco
Day at leisure though we highly recommend a return visit to Machu Picchu. Beat the crowds by taking one of the first buses back to the citadel - sit and watch the early morning mist lifting over the ruins, walk to the Sun Gate or scale the heady heights of Huayna Picchu before making the return journey to Cuzco. Once back on board the Hiram Bingham, you’ll relax with a cocktail in the bar followed by a 4-course a la carte dinner. Upon arrival transfer to the Hotel Monasterio (B,D).
Day 7 Cuzco - Lima
On a half-day city tour you will discover this magical city built on the foundations of the Inca Palaces. You will visit Korikancha - Temple of the Sun, Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral. After a short drive out of the city you will also visit the impressive Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the underground cave and temple of Kenko and Tambomachay, known as the Baths of the Inca. After you’ll transfer to the airport for your flight back to Lima. Assistance will be on hand to help you connect with your international flight (B).
