What the experts say
I recommend Hurtigruten for anyone looking to discover hidden ports along Norway’s rugged coast on a traditional working vessel. They can get into the smaller ports that mass-market, mainstream cruise lines cannot. And, of course, they take far fewer guests, so ports are never crowded and you have space to explore at a relaxed pace.
Onboard, I was surprised at the quality of the furnishings and décor of their public rooms, which are more akin to a cruise ship. The main lounge has plenty of seats and there are several smaller lounges around the ship to relax in. All rooms have large windows, so you can watch the world pass by in comfort.
The restaurant serves buffet breakfast and lunch, with an à la carte dinner – the quality of the food is truly excellent and may exceed your expectations.”
