In search of the Northern Lights with Hurtigruten

Sail from the UNESCO-listed harbour of Bergen in the south to Kirkenes in the north of Norway and back again. This 12-day journey provides a good chance of seeing the magical Northern Lights while you are in the northern reaches of Norway.

Many highlights include a visit to Trondheim with its Gothic Cathedral, The Lofoten Islands, you’ll cross the Arctic Circle and visit Tromso and have the opportunity to experience mainland Europe’s most northerly point - North Cape. Finally you reach Kirkenes, remote outpost of Northern Europe and the turning point of the voyage.

The ports that you pass at night on your northbound voyage are visited during the day while voyaging south, ensuring you get to fully experience this fascinating coast.

Here you bid farewell to our northbound passengers and welcome those joining the southbound voyage. As you turn south the northbound ports visited by night are now seen by day, each season bringing its own beauty to the journey, as spring and summer flowers give way to autumn and the glaciers reflect the dazzling rays of the sun.

You can opt for an overland excursion from Harstad, rejoining the ship in Sortland, before moving on to what is the highlight of the voyage for many, a possible detour into the spectacular and dramatic Trollfjord.

This remarkable day is completed with an evening return to Svolvær and a farewell to the islands at Stamsund.
