Alison is a keen wildlife photographer and highly recommends Sabi Sands in South Africa: “It’s great for photography. You can get so close to the leopards there.” Her other great love is Namibia: “My personal highlights were the giant sand dunes at Sossusvlei, the variety of game at each waterhole in Etosha, and the cheetah conservation project at Okonjima.” Alison has also travelled through Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.

Amit Dhoj Khadka

Growing up in Kathmandu, Amit developed a passion for the great outdoors. He’s trained in canyoning, trekking and rafting, and was a tour leader for Imaginative Traveller in India, Nepal and Tibet. “Africa,” he says “has so much to offer the adventurous traveller: climbing Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest bungee jump and grade five rapids on the Zambezi River.”

Finding myself 10ft away from a 24-stone gorilla was not a situation I expected to be in … but it’s one I’d recommend to anyone,” says Chris of his visit to Uganda. Chris has also travelled in Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, Tunisia, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana and Namibia. He even played football with the local kids in Madagascar, adding: “I swear two of their goals were offside.”

Claire has just returned from a 7 month trip through Africa where she volunteered for 2 months in Ethiopia and then went on to travel the continent. Highlights include relaxing on the feluccas on the Nile in Egypt, spotting the Big 5 in the Serengeti, getting up close and personal with the mountain gorillas in Rwanda and travelling through the Okavango Delta on Mokoro (dug out cannoes). The trip also took in Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia ending in South Africa.

Krishna may be known as our India specialist – and rightly so – but her talents don’t stop there. Her knowledge of Egypt and South Africa is equally impressive, having cruised down the Nile and safaried in South Africa: “The &Beyond team is so good, they all but guarantee you’ll see the Big Five.” Botswana’s Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls are next on her hit list.

Rui grew up in South Africa, and holidayed in the Cape when he was younger: “I still love the area, and we’ve wonderful hotels in Camps Bay, right at the foot of Table Mountain.” His other recommendations include Exeter Lodge in Kruger National Park, and Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge in Namibia, a country, says Rui, of “big skies, great game and friendly people”. Rui has also spent some time exploring Morocco, Egypt and Zimbabwe.
