Tour the modern city for the full day, ending at Daret al Funon, a centre for artists from Jordan and the Arab world.
DAY 3
Greco Roman Cities
Make a visit to these three fine examples of Greco Roman cities: Pella, Um Qeis and Jerash – one of the best-preserved Roman cities, before returning to Amman.
DAY 4
Petra
Leave Amman and head for the red rose city of Petra, stopping along the way at Mt Nebo, where Moses looked out over the Promised Land, Madaba, home to wonderful Byzantine mosaics, and Karak, which is dominated by a labyrinthine Crusader castle.
DAY 5
Petra
Spend the whole day exploring Petra, the ancient Nabatean city.
DAY 6
Wadi Rum
Enjoy two hours in a four-wheel-drive among the red desert sands of Wadi Rum and after dinner head back to Petra.
DAYS 7–8
Dead Sea
Set out to see the brook where Christ was baptised, then head to the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea, to float and relax in the salty water. Enjoy the second day at leisure.
DAY 9
Amman
Return to Amman for flights home.

Highlights of Jordan
Petra is one of the great wonders of the Middle-Eastern world, set in a spectacular deep and narrow desert gorge. Founded by the Nabatean Arabs and added to by the Romans, this fascinating complex was lost to the world for 400 years, until being rediscovered in 1812.
Wadi Rum is an unspoilt desert landscape popular among climbers and hikers. Less active sorts can take camel rides or sleep under the stars in traditional Bedouin tents, or enjoy the springtime when the desert blooms with green.
