Detailed North India tour itinerary:

Days 1–2 Delhi - Arrive in Delhi and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy a tour of Old Delhi, taking in the Red Fort, Chandni Chowk and the Jama Masjid mosque. Spend the afternoon in New Delhi, amid its fabulous parks and gardens.

Days 3–4 Jaipur - Drive to the Pink City of Jaipur for an evening show at the Amber Fort, whose terraces and ramparts you’ll see again the next morning when you visit by elephant. Also see the City Palace Museum and the Hawa Mahal (Palace of winds).

Days 5–6 Ranthambore - Drive to Ranthambore National Park, 1,334 sq km of wild jungle hemmed in by rocky ridges. Formerly the hunting ground of the maharajas, the park is now the only place to spot wild tigers in Rajasthan. Your stay includes three jeep safaris in search of the big cats.

Days 7–8 Agra - Visit the ruins of Fatehpur Sikri en route to Agra, former capital of the Mughal Empire. The next day, visit the fabled Taj Mahal, the world’s greatest ever monument to love, and the impressive Agra Fort.

Day 9 Khajuraho - Take the train to Jhansi, then drive to Khajuraho. The erotic carvings that swathe Khajuraho’s three groups of temples are among the finest examples of temple art in the world.

Days 10–11 Varanasi - Visit the Khajuraho temples in the morning before flying to Varanasi on the banks of the River Ganges. Take a sunrise boat trip, watch people bathing and worshipping, see the holy cremation grounds, take a brief city tour and a halfday excursion to Sarnath, the birthplace of Buddhism.

Days 12–13 Delhi - Fly to Delhi for a final night before transferring to the airport.
