Day 1 Arrive Liberia
Upon arrival transfer to Hotel Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste. You’ll spend two nights at this secluded resort situated on the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by the lovely tropical gardens. Meet your Tauck Director and travel companions at a welcome reception and dinner as you prepare to begin your Costa Rica travel adventure (D).
Day 2 Tizate Wellness Gardens
A guided horseback ride along mountain trails... a tropical forest canopy tour or exciting zip-line adventure through the treetops above the Tizate River... a visit to an organic farm... relaxing massages in the spa... a soothing soak in thermal pools fed by volcanic hot springs - it’s your choice on a visit to the Tizate Wellness Gardens Hot Springs & Spa, a spa and adventure center tucked into a dry tropical forest on the edge of the Tizate River close to volcanic Rincon de la Vieja National Park (B,L,D).
Day 3 Monteverde Cloud Forest
Keep your eyes peeled for iguanas, howler monkeys, otters and other wildlife - as well as a rich variety of birds including cormorants, ospreys, kingfishers, herons and parrots - on a leisurely guided float trip along the tranquil Rio Corobici. After a delicious lunch featuring local specialties at Rincon Corobici, set out for a two-night stay at Monteverde Lodge in Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve - a world of clouds and mists that’s home to an incredible range of plant, animal and bird life (B,L,D).
Day 4 Monteverde Cloud Forest
A full day in Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Meet a wide variety of reptiles at the Serpentarium, and see more than 50 of over an estimated 1,000 native Costa Rican butterfly species, including the stunning blue morpho, at the enclosed Butterfly Garden. The Hummingbird Gallery introduces you to several species of these fascinating birds plus you’ll see photos and slides by noted wildlife photographers. Enjoy a delicious lunch of Costa Rican and fusion cuisine in a beautiful tropical setting at Sofia, prior to a guided visit to a private reserve for even more opportunities to see flora and fauna up close (B,L,D).
Day 5 Arenal National Park
Take in vistas of coffee plantations and cattle farms en route to Lake Arenal in Arenal National Park, home to eight distinct biological zones as well as to Arenal Volcano, one of the world’s most active volcanoes - it’s been erupting continuously for over 40 years! Enjoy a short cruise across Lake Arenal, and go for a pleasant soak in private hot springs rich with therapeutic minerals. Spend the next two nights at the Tilajari Resort Hotel, a tropical resort nestled in rainforest overlooking the San Carlos River (B,L,D).
Day 6 - Arenal National Park
Your Costa Rica adventure continues in the jungle today with a float trip down the scenic Penas Blancas River aboard a raft; spotting wildlife ranging from sloths to giant iguanas along the shore. Meet a local farmer and his extended family who have lived on the river for generations; visit their private home for lunch and a glimpse of their daily life. Rest of the day at leisure (B,L,D).
Day 7 San Jose
Follow the development of fine Costa Rican gourmet coffee from the seed to the cup on a guided tour of the Doka Estate coffee plantation on the slopes of Alajuela Poas Volcano. You’ll learn about the production, the harvesting, the processing plant and the roasting of the grain. After lunch, continue on to Costa Rica’s capital city of San José, where you’ll finish off your tour with an exclusive farewell reception and dinner at the Museo del Oro (Gold Museum). The museum boasts a dazzling collection of thousands of pre-Columbian gold artifacts. Overnight at the Real InterContinental Hotel & Club Tower (B,L,D).
Day 8 End of Tour
Fly to San José in the morning on a private charter flight, to catch your flight home (B).
